Sworn Translations for the Spain Digital Nomad Visa

What a Digital Nomad Visa file usually contains
Six documents carry most of the translation cost. Your own plan is built from what you actually upload.
- Criminal record check
- An FBI check in the US, an ACRO certificate in the UK, covering the countries you have lived in for the last two years. Apostilled, then translated.
- Company registry evidence
- Proof your employer has been trading for at least a year — a certificate of good standing, an incorporation certificate or a Companies House filing. Apostilled, then translated.
- Employment letter or contract
- Evidence of a working relationship of at least three months, and permission to work remotely. A private document: translated, but no apostille needed.
- Degree or proof of experience
- A degree certificate, or evidence of three years of professional experience in the field. A degree is apostilled before translation.
- Proof of income
- Bank statements and payslips showing at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage. Private documents, translated but not apostilled.
- Family documents
- Marriage and birth certificates if a spouse or children are included. Apostilled, then translated.
What does not need translating
The form itself, your passport, your photographs and your health insurance policy are submitted as they are. So, for this application, is the apostille attached to each public document.
The declaration that you have no criminal record for the last five years is signed in Spanish and does not involve a translator at all.

Consulate or UGE?
Applying at a consulate gets you a one-year visa, with a decision published at ten working days. Applying from inside Spain through the Unidad de Grandes Empresas gets you up to three years, but the file is larger: a bank certificate for the preceding three months, invoices, and — if you are the sole director of your own company — evidence of control and the last corporation tax filing.

Why an appointed translator matters
Spain does not recognise a translation simply because it is certified. A traducción jurada must be produced by a translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) for that specific language pair, who signs and stamps it under their own name and appointment number.
This is the single most common reason an otherwise complete file gets sent back: the applicant had the document translated at home, by a certified or notarised translator who is not on the Spanish register. The work has to be redone, and under art. 68 of Ley 39/2015 there are only ten working days to fix it before an application can be shelved.
We verify every translator against the Ministry’s public register, including their active status, before assigning work.

Which Digital Nomad Visa documents need a sworn translation?
Typically the criminal record check, company registry evidence, the employment letter or contract, proof of income, a degree certificate, and any family certificates. The form, passport, photos and insurance policy do not.
Does the apostille need translating too?
For this application, no. The apostille is issued on the standard multilingual Hague form and is submitted attached to the document it legalises. What gets translated is the document underneath.
Should I apostille before or after the translation?
Apostille first, always. The apostille becomes part of the document, and the sworn translator certifies the set they were given.
How much does a full Digital Nomad Visa file cost to translate?
It depends on how many pages your bank statements and contract run to. Fixed-price documents such as the criminal record check and family certificates are shown at catalogue rates; everything else is quoted before you pay. There is never an extra charge after you have paid.
