What a Digital Nomad Visa file usually contains
Six documents carry most of the translation cost. Your own plan is built from what you actually upload.
- Criminal record check
- An FBI check in the US, an ACRO certificate in the UK, covering the countries you have lived in for the last two years. Apostilled, then translated.
- Company registry evidence
- Proof your employer has been trading for at least a year — a certificate of good standing, an incorporation certificate or a Companies House filing. Apostilled, then translated.
- Employment letter or contract
- Evidence of a working relationship of at least three months, and permission to work remotely. A private document: translated, but no apostille needed.
- Degree or proof of experience
- A degree certificate, or evidence of three years of professional experience in the field. A degree is apostilled before translation.
- Proof of income
- Bank statements and payslips showing at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage. Private documents, translated but not apostilled.
- Family documents
- Marriage and birth certificates if a spouse or children are included. Apostilled, then translated.
What does not need translating
The form itself, your passport, your photographs and your health insurance policy are submitted as they are. So, for this application, is the apostille attached to each public document.
The declaration that you have no criminal record for the last five years is signed in Spanish and does not involve a translator at all.

Consulate or UGE?
Applying at a consulate gets you a one-year visa, with a decision published at ten working days. Applying from inside Spain through the Unidad de Grandes Empresas gets you up to three years, but the file is larger: a bank certificate for the preceding three months, invoices, and — if you are the sole director of your own company — evidence of control and the last corporation tax filing.
Both routes are supported. Choose the one you are taking at the start of the quote and the rules applied to your documents change with it.

Why an appointed translator matters
A traducción jurada is produced by a translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) for that specific language pair, who signs it under their own name and appointment number. Under Real Decreto 724/2020 it is an official translation in Spain; a certified or notarised translation made in another country is not.
Consulates abroad set their own rules. London, Edinburgh and Manchester require a sworn translator, while most US consulates also accept a local certified translator. Offices inside Spain ask for an official translation, and when a translation is not accepted, art. 68 of Ley 39/2015 gives ten working days to fix it before an application can be shelved.

Which Digital Nomad Visa documents need a sworn translation?
Filed from Spain with the UGE-CE, every document not written in Spanish needs a sworn translation except the CV, which can have a simple one. Typically that means the criminal record check, company registry evidence, the employment letter or contract, proof of income, a degree certificate and any family certificates. The form, passport, photos and insurance policy do not. At a consulate abroad, check whether it also accepts a local certified translator.
Does the apostille need translating too?
Usually not. The Edinburgh, Ottawa, Boston and Miami consulates say the apostille does not need its own translation; what gets translated is the document underneath. Some offices still expect it, and including it in the translation costs little.
Should I apostille before or after the translation?
Apostille first, always. The apostille becomes part of the document, and the sworn translator certifies the set they were given.
How much does a full Digital Nomad Visa file cost to translate?
It depends on how many pages your bank statements and contract run to. Fixed-price documents such as family certificates and degrees are shown at catalogue rates; everything else is quoted before you pay. There is never an extra charge after you have paid.
